Prepare your plans for AI import

Choose the drawings that explain the building, record what is missing and keep the import scope visible.

Choose a coherent drawing issue

Use the intended current drawing issue and retain the sheet names and revision information. If the folder mixes revisions, first decide which sheets govern the scope. Do not ask AI to resolve an undocumented revision conflict.

Before uploading, check that the PDF contains the relevant building and exterior openings. Remove unrelated or confidential material from the source you choose to share. Keep a record of excluded sheets so they can be reviewed independently.

Cover the drawing roles

Select views that answer different questions: plans for layout, elevations for opening locations and heights, sections for building and roof geometry, and schedules for marks and stated specifications. One sheet may contain multiple roles.

Fenestry accepts a PDF up to 40 MB and 100 pages. AI reconstruction analyzes up to six selected pages per request. A document being attached does not mean every sheet was analyzed. Review the selected page list and keep omitted pages in the coverage check.

Check readable evidence

Open the PDF at a useful zoom and confirm that marks, written dimensions, units, orientation and notes are readable. Prefer a clean source export when available. A blurry or clipped scan can remove the evidence needed for a defensible opening record.

Do not crop away the title, orientation or dimension context needed to interpret a view. There is no universal DPI threshold that guarantees a correct reconstruction. If a necessary note cannot be read, obtain a better source or record the missing information.

Confirm the request and review the result

Upload the file, inspect the available pages and select the sheets before explicitly requesting AI analysis. Attaching a PDF and requesting analysis are separate steps. Review the resulting model against those sources.

Our downloadable six-page set deliberately fits the selection limit: plan, four elevations, then section and schedule. Its simplicity makes it useful for learning the workflow, not for predicting performance on detailed construction sets.

Keep the next step connected

Use the schedule reading guide to interpret marks and sizes, then record unknowns in the free schedule template.
